I was born in Edinburgh in 1961 and brought up in East Calder and the Granton area of Edinburgh. After studying at Aberdeen University I went on to do a variety of jobs - in the Scientific Health service, in the Civil Service, in the Social Work Department and in West Lothian Education Department. For the last 20 years I’ve lived in the West Lothian town of Broxburn with my husband. We have 2 teenagers and an assortment of animals. |

From a young age I was very enthusiastic about painting, receiving my first oil paints at 8. But with the arrival of a puppy my paints inevitably found their way into the cupboard. I would like to say that these actual paints eventually resurfaced; but nothing survived our clear-outs. Except, that is, my interest in painting and art. This was rekindled at my work in a special needs school where art is used as a therapy. With the encouragement of family and friends I began painting in oils 5 years ago, learning as I went along from TV programmes and step-by-step guides. There was never any doubt about what to paint, I had for many years been interested in photography, local history and nature and had many photographs of different landscapes of both the Lothians the North East of Scotland. Initially I concentrated on traditional style landscapes and seascapes but lately I have been trying out contemporary and abstract styles, experimenting with other mediums and mixed mediums. I find trying to recreate the various moods in my local landscapes an absorbing challenge. And of course the quest for my best painting yet still continues! |
